Few actors in Malayalam cinema have been as unlucky as Tovino Thomas. Despite a golden opportunity to rise to stardom with the superhero film Minnal Murali, an exceptional movie, Tovino couldn’t fully capitalize on it due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which forced a direct-to-OTT release. He missed the cheers, whistles, and excitement that would have filled theatres during his on-screen moments.
Not many actors are fortunate enough to get a second chance, but Tovino has been given one with debut director Jithin Laal’s visually thrilling spectacle, Ajayante Randam Moshanam (Ajayan’s Second Theft). Set across three distinct time periods, the film blends fantasy, adventure, and action, offering the cast, especially Tovino, plenty of room to shine. Tovino plays three different characters, and while Sujith Nambiar’s screenplay occasionally shifts between timelines, the story mostly unfolds chronologically, with the three narratives cleverly connected through cross-references.
